When God Breaks People's Teeth...

"Arise, O Lord! Save me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the Lord; your blessing be on your people! Selah." Psalm 3:7-8

Have you ever wondered about the fierce love that God has for you? Do you believe that he even loves that way? Most preachers stay away from verses like this because of the implication - God is not a hippie pacifist. Most pastors have no issue preaching about the love of God, but the fiercely jealous God who strikes his enemies? That is a subject that is usually avoided.

The Psalms are filled with passages like this, passages that remind us of just how zealous God is for his bride. He is not a wimpy lovesick puppy, but a warrior fighting for his bride. He fights for her. He is ready to go to battle over her. This isn't a weak God with no passion, but a passionate God with his eyes set on his bride. His eyes burn with fierce love for his bride.

David here is surrounded by his enemies and like many of us, wisely calls out for help. Save me, he cries. The Lord hears his cries and comes to the rescue. David sees the Lord hitting his enemies so hard in the face that it breaks their teeth! This is a God who is not messing around. He means business. And David knows this. He encourages people to selah, or think on this. He doesn't want you to pass this though by. It's important to know that God cares deeply for you.

Too often, we feel as though God doesn't really care about us. Like he wouldn't truly fight for us. We often associate God with our father or a loved one who refused to stand up for us, but that's not who God is, that's not his character. God fights for the ones he loves and he loves you with an overwhelming love. His wrath will be displayed against all who come against you. This isn't a threat, it's a promise.

If you have been the victim of the enemies plans, do not feel like God has forgotten you. He will bring justice. It will be on his time, but it will come. There will be no avoiding it. There will be no hiding from it. The Lord is coming to his bride and his enemies will be scattered. Nothing will stop him from saving his bride and punishing his enemies. Nothing.

Prayer - Lord, thank you for revealing your fierce love for us. Your love for me is strong and courageous. You are not ashamed of me, in spite of my flaws. Your grace covers me. Thank you for loving me today Father and help me to love you with that same intensity. Amen.
