God Hears His Children

"But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him." - Psalm 4:3

Have you ever prayed and felt like your words were bouncing off the ceiling? I know I have. There have been many times in my life where I wasn't sure the Lord was listening to me. I would pray faithfully, but the only response I got was silence.

The truth of the matter, though, was that God did hear me. Every time I called to Him, He heard my cries. In spite of how I felt in the moment, the Lord was listening to me. His ears are always attentive when I call to Him.

David in Psalm 4 recognizes an important thing that many of us miss. David recognized that because of who he was, God would listen to him. Let me say that again, it was because of who David was that God was listening. It wasn't based on what David did, but on who he was and that principle is the same today. God listens to his children. He hears them.

Some of us mistakenly believe that God doesn't hear us because of our past faults or failures. We see God as a tyrant who holds a grudge against us and won't listen to us because we failed too much, but this couldn't be further from the truth! God's grace covers your faults and failures. He isn't holding a grudge, he sees you as a son!

Here David says that God has set apart the godly for himself. Elsewhere, we see that those that are set apart God calls his family. He hears us when we call. David see that because the godly are set apart for the Lord, God hears those that are set apart.

This promise extends to us today. We are not like those who are praying to statues. Statues are mute, blind and deaf. They can neither hear you, see you or speak to you. But it's not so with our God. He hears your call, he sees you in your distress and he speaks words of comfort to you. What an amazing promise!

Prayer - Father, thank you for setting us apart through Jesus Christ and making us into your sons and daughters. We know that because of this, you hear us, see us and speak to us. Thank you for speaking words of comfort and hearing my cries. Be with me and help me to realize you are always there and are listening whenever I call. Amen.
